About Sandy Moss Moder
A word from the author
Sandy Moss Moder is the author of If I Have One More Brain Thing… and Gluten-Free Cookery. Her work brings together a lifelong love of words, art, and the everyday experiences that shape us.
From a caregiver’s search for understanding to the pleasure of sharing a family recipe, Sandy writes with a close eye for the details of life.
Finding her voice
A life expressed in words
Sandy found her writing voice at a young age through poetry, journals, and stories, with encouragement to continue. She wrote If I Have One More Brain Thing… after journaling about life with her husband, who had frontotemporal degeneration (FTD). She wanted to share her experience with others facing a similar situation.
Her first published work appeared in the summer of 2020 in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel newsletter: “Two Puppies! What Was I Thinking?”
Making and teaching
An artist’s way of seeing
Art began in childhood, as well, as Sandy created with found things in the rural Ohio farm community where she grew up. An award-winning colored-pencil artist, she wrote The Comprehensive Drawing Course, which she teaches in her art studio.
Her creativity also finds a home in the kitchen. Gluten-Free Cookery draws on family food traditions and her experience adapting favorite recipes for gluten-free cooking and baking.
Sharing her experience
Writing, caregiving, and connection
Sandy’s guest essay was published by The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) in November 2023. She has also shared her caregiving story in podcast conversations.
“I admire your courage to step into new activities like this, writing the book, and doing your best.” — K.F.
Sandy lives in Texas with her two spaniels, “the girls,” whose companionship was part of her healing journey while writing her memoir.
“I wish you Truth, Strength, and Clarity.”
